Solar PV Installer Training Programme: Building a Skilled Workforce for Clean Energy

The Solar PV Installer Training Programme aims to equip young people from economically weaker sections with industry-relevant skills in solar photovoltaic (PV) installation, operation, and maintenance. The initiative focuses particularly on youth aged 18–30, including women and individuals without formal education, creating pathways to employment and sustainable livelihoods in India's growing clean energy sector.

The programme will be delivered in Najafgarh, with outreach extending to peri-urban and rural communities across South-West Delhi. Each training batch will comprise 30 participants and will receive 360 hours of structured training, combining classroom learning with practical field exposure.

• Provide industry-relevant vocational training in solar PV installation and maintenance.

• Create employment and self-employment opportunities for youth from economically weaker sections.

• Improve access to skill development for women and youth without formal education.

• Build a skilled workforce capable of supporting India's transition towards renewable energy.

• Bridge opportunity gaps by connecting underserved youth with emerging employment opportunities.

• Support sustainable livelihoods and long-term economic mobility.

Key Intervention Areas

1. Solar PV Technical Training: Participants will receive structured training covering:

• Solar PV system installation

• System operation

• Maintenance and troubleshooting

• Practical field-based applications

2. Practical Exposure & Certification: The programme combines technical instruction with hands-on field exposure and certification aligned with relevant national skill standards, helping participants develop job-ready competencies.

3. Employment & Placement Support: The programme will provide placement support to help trained participants transition into employment or self-employment. The initiative targets at least 70% employment or self-employment within 3–6 months of course completion.

4. Inclusive Youth SkillingThe programme prioritizes youth from economically weaker sections, with specific emphasis on women and individuals with limited or no formal education, helping expand access to livelihood opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Expected Impact

The initiative seeks to create a pool of trained solar PV professionals while enabling underserved youth to access emerging livelihood opportunities in the clean energy sector. By combining technical training, practical exposure, certification, and placement support, the programme aims to contribute to both youth economic empowerment and India's growing renewable energy workforce.

Implementation Approach

The programme is being implemented through a bipartite partnership between Sungrow India and CCSE (Centre for CSR and Sustainability Excellence), with Don Bosco Tech Society supporting implementation. Through structured vocational training and employment-oriented support, the initiative aims to build an inclusive and industry-ready workforce for India's clean energy transition.
