Project Synopsis: Upgrading Infrastructure and Refurbishment of a Government Lower Primary School

AMADA (India) Pvt. Ltd., in partnership with the Centre for CSR and Sustainability Excellence (CCSE) and Global Concerns India, implemented a CSR initiative under the Education thematic area titled “Enhancing Educational Support at a Government School to Foster Primary Student Learning and Retention in Bengaluru.” The project was undertaken at B K Palya Primary Government School, Jala Hobli, Yelahanka Taluk, North Bangalore, with the objective of improving the school's infrastructure, supporting better learning outcomes, and promoting student attendance and retention.

The project was implemented between September 2022 and August 2023. Key interventions included the construction of six toilets, renovation of handwash facilities, refurbishment of the Nalli-Kalli classroom, and upgrading of the school kitchen. Kitchen improvements included waterproofing, floor tiling, replastering, installation of exhaust fans, painting, electrical work, and plumbing repairs.

The school's play area was refurbished with a proper sandpit and outdoor play equipment including slides, swings, jungle gym, see-saw, merry-go-round and outdoor play stations. Various areas of the school campus were also repaired and improved, including the pathway and entrance gate, boundary walls, garden area and school entrance arch. Educational and creative wall paintings and approximately 20 LED waterproof lamps were also installed along the boundary wall.

The infrastructure improvements created a safer, more conducive and inclusive learning environment for students. The upgraded facilities, ergonomic furniture, and improved lighting and ventilation contributed to students' physical comfort and their ability to focus and participate actively in lessons.

Following completion of the infrastructure activities, the school took over responsibility for maintaining the renovated facilities. A handing-over ceremony was held on September 6, 2023, marking the formal completion of the intervention and highlighting the collaborative efforts of AMADA, Global Concerns India and CCSE towards improving the educational environment of the school.
